Open Neighborhood is a creative outreach program developed by Professor Justin Hollander of Tufts’ Urban and Environmental Planning Program (UEP) and consulting architect Ann Sussman, RA. Combining virtual world immersion and creative art and craft exercises, Open Neighborhood encourages citizens to learn about and develop their own models for their community’s future.
The Re-Visioning Slade’s Ferry project is funded by the South Coast Rail technical assistance program, managed by MassDOT and the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development. It follows the Town of Somerset’s request for planning assistance to help create a consensus vision of how Slade’s Ferry could evolve into a vibrant and successful destination. The Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District, along with a diverse advisory committee comprising many local residents, is guiding this endeavor. The intent is to have ideas generated by residents inform a concept plan designed to spur the area’s revitalization.
